Parkin, Dubai’s largest operator of paid public parking, has begun rolling out AI-powered camera systems across key areas of the city, marking the first phase of what the company says is the first such on-street deployment in the region.
More than 500 curb and pole cameras are currently being installed at Trade Centre 1, Burj Khalifa, and Al Corniche. A further 200 cameras will cover controlled parking lots across the emirate. All units will be solar powered.
The cameras use AI to read number plates automatically, tracking entry and exit times, calculating parking duration, flagging violations, and triggering automated fee payments. The systems will feed directly into the Parkin app, allowing drivers to pay through the Parkin Wallet without manual input.
“Adopting advanced smart technologies remains central to how Parkin continues to enhance parking management across Dubai. This rollout marks an important step in scaling our smart parking infrastructure and strengthening how customers interact with parking across the Emirate. We remain focused on enabling more efficient access to parking and ensuring seamless management for customers across every aspect of their parking journey, while supporting Dubai’s vision for smarter and more connected urban mobility,” Eng. Mohamed Abdulla Al Ali, CEO of Parkin said in a statement.
“This deployment marks an important step in advancing Parkin’s smart parking technology, with camera systems and real-time data enabling more efficient and connected parking operations across the Emirate. Integration with the Parkin App supports a more streamlined approach to parking management, improving accuracy and consistency across operations. As we continue to develop our systems, we remain focused on delivering scalable and secure solutions that support the continued expansion of our smart parking capabilities,” Eng. Talal Al Ajmi, CTO of Parkin added.
Parkin said the practical effect for drivers will be less time spent searching for spaces, a lower risk of receiving fines, and a smoother payment process. For the city, the company argues the systems will ease congestion in busy districts and make better use of urban space in line with Dubai’s smart mobility agenda.
The Parkin app is available on iOS, Android, and Huawei.
