Nvidia and Microsoft are expected to announce the first Windows PC powered by an Nvidia central processing unit within days, according to sources cited by Axios.
Devices carrying the Nvidia chip are set to include machines from Microsoft’s Surface line as well as computers from other manufacturers, among them Dell.
The announcement is expected to be made at two events running concurrently: the Computex trade show in Taipei and Microsoft’s Build developer conference in San Francisco. Official accounts for Windows, Nvidia, and chip designer Arm each posted on X hinting at a Friday announcement of “a new era for computers,” accompanied by what appeared to be coordinates pointing to the Taiwanese capital.
Microsoft’s push to transition to chips offering longer battery life has not yet produced a meaningful sales jump. Apple, which uses its own in-house processors, unveiled updated MacBook machines in March fitted with its latest M5-series chips.
Reuters first reported in 2023 that Nvidia was planning to design central processing units running Microsoft’s Windows operating system using Arm technology. Neither company responded to requests for comment ahead of the expected announcement.
