Etihad Rail has established a schedule of fines ranging from AED 200 to AED 5,000 for passenger misconduct on its trains and at its stations, under an approved passenger charter designed to protect the safety and comfort of travellers and staff.
The charter, a copy of which was reviewed by Emarat Al Youm, places a AED 500 fine on any behaviour that disturbs, abuses, threatens, or intimidates other passengers or Etihad Rail employees. The violation covers loud noise, harassment, verbal abuse, threats, spitting, and the contamination of trains or station facilities. Smoking, vaping, or using any tobacco product in prohibited areas, including trains and stations, carries the same AED 500 penalty.
Minor infractions attract a AED 200 fine. These include littering, placing feet on train seats, travelling without a valid ticket, and occupying a reserved seat without authorisation.
The heaviest fines, set at AED 5,000, apply to more serious offences: damaging train carriages or station property, including graffiti or vandalism; preventing train doors from closing before departure; opening or attempting to open doors while the train is in motion; tampering with or activating safety equipment without justification, including emergency alarms, emergency brakes, or fire extinguishers; and throwing any object inside, towards, or from a train or from a station platform.
The charter specifies that fines may be issued to any person in violation, whether a passenger or a visitor to a station or facility. Payment is mandatory and may be made by the violator or a representative. Etihad Rail confirmed that paying a fine does not preclude it from referring a matter to relevant authorities, including the public prosecutor, or pursuing further legal action under applicable laws, which may include additional penalties or imprisonment where applicable.
