The death toll from the current Ebola outbreak in Africa has passed 1,000, with the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda together recording 1,001 fatalities.
The DRC’s Ministry of Health reported 2,473 confirmed cases and 999 deaths as of July 20. Uganda has confirmed 20 cases, including two deaths.
The outbreak was declared in eastern DRC on May 15 and has since spread to four additional provinces. As of the latest figures, 737 patients remain under treatment or isolation, while 482 people have recovered.
