ADNOC Gas and Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) signed an agreement on Wednesday to explore natural gas supply arrangements for new power generation capacity in the Northern Emirates. The signing was witnessed by Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure and Chairman of EtihadWE’s board.

For ADNOC Gas, the agreement opens a potential new domestic demand stream as the company brings additional gas volumes online through its growth programme. For EtihadWE, it offers a pathway to securing a reliable domestic fuel source to underpin additional generation capacity in the region.

“ADNOC Gas is investing to meet the UAE’s growing energy needs. By expanding our capacity and infrastructure, we can connect new gas supply with new customers, support future power generation and create sustainable long-term value for our shareholders,” Fatema Al Nuaimi, Chief Executive Officer of ADNOC Gas said in a statement.

ADNOC Gas is currently running what the company describes as one of the world’s largest integrated gas growth programmes. Two of its core components are directly relevant to the EtihadWE collaboration: Rich Gas Development, which is set to expand gas processing capacity, and Estidama, a pipeline modernisation programme designed to move gas more efficiently from processing facilities to end customers across the UAE.

“EtihadWE is developing a balanced portfolio of gas-fired and renewable energy generation to support the Northern Emirates’ long-term growth and evolving energy needs. Our partnership with ADNOC Gas, a global leader in the energy sector, strengthens our access to reliable, long-term gas supplies, supporting our commitment to delivering a secure, resilient and sustainable electricity system for the communities and businesses we serve,” Eng. Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, Chief Executive Officer of EtihadWE added.

The agreement reflects a broader strategic logic in UAE energy policy: growing domestic gas supply reduces dependence on imported fuels and provides the fuel base needed to support continued economic and population growth.
