As the peak summer travel season winds down, travellers from Kuwait are gravitating toward shorter getaways rather than extended holidays.

Data from Wego, an online travel marketplace operating across the Middle East and North Africa, shows that searches for trips of four nights or fewer rose 40 per cent for September departures compared with August.

Dubai, Cairo, Istanbul, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi are the top destinations drawing interest this month. Bahrain recorded the sharpest growth, with searches for September departures up 38 per cent against August.

Return fares across these destinations started from KWD 55 per passenger, and searches were typically made around a month before departure.

“September brings a noticeable change in travel patterns following the peak summer period. For travellers from Kuwait, shorter breaks offer an opportunity to fit travel around returning routines, whether that means a few days in a nearby destination or a stay closer to home. What we’re seeing is an appetite for trips that are easy to plan, well connected, and still offer a meaningful change of scenery,” Mamoun Hmidan, Chief Business Officer at Wego said in a statement.

Domestic demand has also been notable. Wego recorded a 53 per cent year-on-year increase in hotel searches within Kuwait across July and August, with searches concentrated in Kuwait City, followed by Salmiya and Al Khiran. Average nightly rates for domestic stays started from KWD 63.

The combined picture, outbound short-haul trips and a healthy staycation market, suggests Kuwaiti travellers are looking for compact, low-friction breaks rather than disappearing from the travel market as summer closes out.
