Oil prices edged lower in early Thursday trading, with Brent crude futures falling 37 cents, or 0.5%, to $79.08 a barrel by 00:24 GMT.
US West Texas Intermediate futures dropped further in relative terms, declining 53 cents, or 0.7%, to $74.69 a barrel.
Wednesday’s session had offered mixed signals: Brent closed slightly higher at settlement while WTI finished marginally lower, leaving both benchmarks under modest pressure heading into Thursday.
