The Moroccan Football Federation has confirmed Mohamed Wahbi as head coach of the national team following the country’s elimination from the 2026 World Cup at the quarter-final stage.

The federation announced the decision on its Facebook page after a board meeting on Thursday, saying it had renewed confidence in Wahbi “to continue his duties as coach of the national team.”

Morocco reached the last eight after finishing second in Group C behind Brazil, with two wins and a draw in the group stage. They then beat the Netherlands on penalties in the round of 32, winning 3–2 in a shootout after a 1–1 draw, before defeating host nation Canada 3–0 in the round of 16. Their tournament ended when France scored twice in six second-half minutes to win 2–0.

Wahbi, who accepted personal responsibility for the quarter-final defeat, said the Atlas Lions’ overall campaign had been positive and that the future of Moroccan football “will be beautiful.”

The federation echoed that assessment, describing Morocco’s participation as “positive and honourable” and calling the quarter-final run “an achievement that confirms the continued development of national football.”

Wahbi was appointed on 5 March this year, replacing Walid Regragui, who had guided Morocco to a historic fourth-place finish at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The federation brought Wahbi in on the strength of his record with the under-20 side, which he led to a World Cup title.
