VOX Cinemas at Mall of the Emirates has become the first cinema in the GCC to receive Dubai Municipality’s Certificate of Compliance with Accessibility Regulations for Existing Buildings, known as the Wosool certificate.
Majid Al Futtaim, which operates VOX Cinemas across the Middle East and North Africa, describes the venue as the first and only fully accessible cinema in the region.
The certification follows a series of physical upgrades to the complex. These include accessible entrance and exit ramps, doors designed for easier use, dedicated counter and auditorium spaces for People of Determination, accessible health facilities, and integrated wayfinding throughout the cinema. The company says the changes cover all auditoriums, allowing guests across all categories of disability to use cinema services independently.
“We are proud to receive the Wosool certification for VOX Cinemas at Mall of the Emirates, a significant milestone that underscores our commitment to creating great moments for everyone, every day. This recognition reinforces our belief that true excellence is inclusive by design. Through our company-wide sustainability strategy, ‘Dare Today, Change Tomorrow’, we continue to embed accessibility and inclusivity into the heart of our destinations. We are committed to shaping spaces that go beyond compliance and reimagining destinations where everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered to enjoy their experience fully, every time they visit,” Ignace Lahoud, Chief Executive Officer of Majid Al Futtaim Entertainment said in a statement.
The Wosool programme is tied to Dubai’s Universal Design Code, one of the key outcomes of the “My Community… A City for Everyone” initiative launched by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Compliance is now a mandatory requirement for buildings and facilities across the emirate. The certificate indicates that a building meets the accessibility standards set out in the Dubai Building Code for people of determination, older adults, and children.
Majid Al Futtaim said it plans to roll out similar upgrades across the remaining VOX Cinemas locations within its portfolio, though no timeline was given.
