Morocco are through to the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a controlled 3-0 victory over Canada on Saturday, becoming the first team to claim a last-eight spot in this edition of the tournament.
The first half ended goalless, with Morocco dominant in shape but unable to break through. Azzedine Ounahi changed that in the 50th minute, his opener finally breaching a well-organised Canadian defence. He added a second in the 82nd minute, and Soufiane Rahimi sealed the win with a third in the 90th minute, sending Morocco’s large travelling support into full voice.
The Atlas Lions were composed throughout, pressing in numbers and defending with discipline. Canada had little to offer in response and exit the tournament without troubling the scoreboard.
Morocco, who made history by reaching the semi-finals at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, continue to build on their standing as one of the more serious sides in the tournament.
