Zayed National Museum in Abu Dhabi has been named one of TIME’s World’s Greatest Places 2026, the Abu Dhabi Media Office reported.
The recognition places the museum among a select group of cultural and travel destinations worldwide. It is one of only two destinations in the Middle East category on the 2026 list, and one of three across the MENA region.
TIME magazine publishes its World’s Greatest Places list each year, highlighting 100 destinations across the globe that offer new and exceptional experiences.

Places are selected through nominations from TIME’s international network of correspondents and contributors, as well as through an open application process.
The 2026 edition continues the publication’s tradition of identifying destinations that reflect the best of what the world has to offer travellers and cultural explorers.
The museum is located in the Saadiyat Cultural District, Abu Dhabi – an area regarded as one of the highest concentrations of world-class cultural institutions globally.
Zayed National Museum opened its doors on December 3, 2025. It traces 300,000 years of human history in the land and honours the life and legacy of the Founding Father of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The museum comprises six permanent galleries, one outdoor gallery and a temporary exhibition space. Its collection includes artefacts from across the UAE, among them the Abu Dhabi Pearl – one of the world’s oldest natural pearls – and the Blue Qur’an, one of the manuscripts in the history of Islamic art.
A centrepiece of the museum is a full-scale reconstruction of an ancient Magan Boat, produced through a research partnership with Zayed University and New York University Abu Dhabi.
The museum was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Lord Norman Foster of Foster + Partners. Its architecture is inspired by the wings of a falcon in flight – a symbol of Emirati heritage and the values of Sheikh Zayed.
The inclusion of Zayed National Museum on TIME’s World’s Greatest Places 2026 list positions Abu Dhabi as a destination of note on the cultural map. As one of only two entries from the Middle East and one of three from the MENA region, the museum’s recognition reflects the standing of the Saadiyat Cultural District as a hub for institutions of global significance.
