Iraq’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has announced a landmark agreement with Google to provide free access to its advanced Gemini Pro artificial intelligence suite for all Iraqi university students. The initiative, launched on October 8, 2025, marks a pivotal step in the country’s digital transformation strategy in education.
The program offers one year of complimentary access—normally valued at $240 annually—to students across public and private universities. Starting October 9, participants will be able to use Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro model for advanced problem-solving and Veo 3 for video generation. The tools will be integrated into everyday Google apps such as Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet, with additional benefits including extended use of NotebookLM and 2 terabytes of cloud storage.
Iraqi students can access the free Gemini Pro bundle by registering through the official portal: Gemini for Students.
The Ministry emphasized that the agreement represents the most significant milestone yet in its push to modernize Iraq’s education sector. “This initiative will empower students with the skills needed to compete in the global knowledge economy,” officials said, highlighting the importance of AI literacy for future graduates, according to Iraqi News.
By making cutting-edge AI universally available, the government aims to raise academic performance, improve research capabilities, and foster innovation across universities. The rollout also aligns with Iraq’s broader efforts to integrate digital tools into public services and workforce training.
