The Emirates Drug Establishment has approved Lipfendra, an oral medication for adults with elevated low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C) cholesterol, including certain inherited conditions. The UAE is now the second country in the world to authorise the treatment.
Lipfendra is taken once daily and is intended to be used alongside a balanced diet and regular physical activity. It targets LDL cholesterol, a key risk factor for cardiovascular disease, and is prescribed as part of a broader treatment plan determined by a healthcare professional.
The approval extends options for patients who require additional intervention beyond lifestyle changes, the establishment said, and is consistent with evidence-based medical practice.
The Emirates Drug Establishment urged people with high cholesterol to maintain healthy habits and consult a healthcare professional to assess their condition and identify the most appropriate course of treatment.
