Lucy, the 3.2-million-year-old Australopithecus afarensis fossil, will remain on display at the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi until 23 March, giving visitors across the UAE and beyond a further opportunity to see one of the most scientifically significant early hominin skeletons ever unearthed.
The extension comes as a response to continued public interest in the fossil, which has drawn visitors to The Human Story gallery since her arrival at the museum.
Lucy’s skeleton preserves around 40 per cent of an individual, a proportion that has allowed scientists to draw conclusions about her body shape, strength and movement that would otherwise have been impossible to establish from more fragmentary remains.
Standing alongside Lucy in the gallery offers an encounter with a life from the deep past, one that invites reflection on the passage of time, the nature of change and the question of survival on Earth.
The Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi is accessible via its website at nhmad.ae, where visitors can plan their trip, learn more about the museum’s collections and book tickets in advance.
General admission is free for visitors under the age of 18 and for those aged 60 and over. Adult tickets are priced at AED70.
With Lucy’s stay confirmed until March 23, those who have yet to visit have a narrowing window to see a fossil that, as the museum states, offers “a rare, up-close encounter with a distant life from the deep past.”
