The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has announced the closure of parts of the UAE’s airspace as a precautionary measure, citing security developments in the region.
The GCAA said the decision followed “a comprehensive and thorough assessment of security and operational risks, and in full coordination with relevant national and international authorities.”
The authority said the move was aimed at “ensuring the safety of flights and aircrews and safeguarding the territory of the United Arab Emirates,” pointing to what it called “rapidly escalating security developments in the region.”
It stressed that “airspace safety and the protection of the UAE’s air sovereignty remain absolute priorities.”
The GCAA confirmed it would “continue to keep the relevant authorities and the public informed of any developments as they occur.” It urged passengers to contact their airlines directly for updates on flight schedules, adding that airlines, “in coordination with local authorities, will provide necessary accommodation and assistance to affected passengers.”
The authority reiterated that “the safety of passengers and flight crews remains its top priority,” and reaffirmed its commitment to implementing measures to ensure standards of aviation safety are met.
It also called on the public to “obtain information exclusively from official and accredited sources,” and expressed appreciation for cooperation “under these exceptional circumstances.”
UAE authorities take precautions in response to regional situation
The UAE Ministry of Interior is monitoring developments in the region and confirms that it is operating at a state of readiness to take all measures necessary, in coordination with authorities and bodies across the country. The Ministry has stated that its focus is on maintaining the security and safety of citizens, residents, and visitors.
The Ministry has said that public safety and security remain a priority, and that it will keep the public informed of developments and instructions as they emerge.
The Ministry has also urged the public to source information from official channels only, and to refrain from spreading rumours or information that has not been verified. It has called on the public to cooperate with authorities and to follow instructions as they are issued.
