Etihad Airways has begun scheduled service to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), with its inaugural flight arriving on 20 March. The route is operated by the airline’s Airbus A350-1000.
The service represents the first direct connection between the Charlotte region and Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, where Etihad is headquartered.
The new route is positioned to serve not only Charlotte but communities throughout North Carolina and across the broader Southeast of the United States. According to the airline, the service supports both passenger and freight connectivity, providing travellers and businesses with access to destinations across India and Asia through Etihad’s network at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport.

The airline said the connection is designed to bridge the region to “key destinations across India and Asia.”
The route is operated by the A350-1000, a widebody aircraft from Airbus. The type features the latest generation engines and aerodynamics, and is regarded as one of the most fuel-efficient aircraft in commercial widebody service today.
The aircraft is configured with two cabins. In Business, passengers have access to fully flat beds, direct aisle access, a level of privacy, and a dining experience. The cabin is designed for passengers seeking rest on the long-haul sector between Charlotte and Abu Dhabi.
Economy is configured with 327 seats. Passengers in this cabin receive personal in-flight entertainment screens with Bluetooth headset pairing, along with a complimentary Wi-Fi chat package as part of their ticket.
Beyond passenger travel, Etihad has indicated that freight connectivity forms part of the rationale for the route. The belly capacity of the A350-1000 is expected to support cargo movements between North Carolina and markets in the Middle East, India, and Asia, offering logistics options for businesses in the region.
