The selected initiatives focused on establishing a database, addressing rider behaviours and practices, and developing policies and procedures related to awareness and logistics in the sector. The initiatives support RTA’s efforts to foster innovation and to achieve levels of health, safety, and efficiency in the transport and delivery sector.

Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, said the Innovation Lab aimed to address challenges and anticipate opportunities in regulating the sector through the exchange of insights with partners in an environment that uses artificial intelligence tools and solutions.

“The Innovation Lab also highlighted the importance of enhancing traffic safety, as well as strengthening the governance and regulation of personal mobility means and delivery bikes. It underscored the need to regulate the licensing of personal mobility means such as bicycles and electric scooters, and to ensure the proper qualification of their users,” Mahboob added.

Companies presented at the Innovation Lab, showcasing their experience in applying artificial intelligence technologies in delivery operations.

Internet of Things solutions that use systems and sensors to monitor delivery bike riders’ behaviour, detect traffic violations, and enable remote and corrective action were also presented, enhancing governance and safety across the sector.
