South Korea opened their 2026 World Cup campaign with a 2–1 comeback win over the Czech Republic at Akron Stadium in Guadalajara on Thursday, with Hwang In-beom the decisive figure in both goals.
The Czech Republic took the lead through Ladislav Krejci in the 59th minute, but Hwang levelled for South Korea in the 67th before setting up substitute Oh Hyeon-gyu, who completed the turnaround in the 80th.
South Korea sit second in Group A, separated from leaders Mexico only on goal difference. Mexico topped the group earlier in the week with a 2–0 victory over South Africa in the tournament’s opening match.
