Sharjah is rolling out more than AED1.2 billion in development projects across its Eastern and Central regions this year, spanning education, sport, public services, and green spaces.
The Sharjah Department of Public Works is responsible for the programme. Its Eastern Region portfolio is valued at over AED834 million, while Central Region projects exceed AED386 million, according to the Sharjah Government Media Bureau. Both figures cover projects currently under construction as well as those already completed and handed over.
Kalba carries the largest share of the Eastern Region spend, accounting for around AED618 million. The completed second phase of Victoria International School in Kalba came in at AED184 million, and extensions to government buildings along the city’s waterfront add a combined AED185 million.
A sports complex at the University of Kalba, budgeted at AED110 million, will include two semi-Olympic swimming pools, a football pitch, and a running track. Work on the AED77 million Kalba Club for the Disabled is 76 per cent complete, while the AED38 million Rock Art Centre stands at 46 per cent.
Khorfakkan’s allocation is approximately AED188 million, with the AED140 million second phase of Victoria International School there already handed over.
A new nursery in Al Luluyah Neighbourhood is also complete, and work on a civil defence centre and other facilities continues. Dibba Al Hisn rounds out the Eastern Region with just over AED29 million in community projects, covering a nursery, waterfront amenities, and facilities at Sharjah Ladies Club’s beach park.
In the Central Region, education commands AED312 million of the total. The largest single project is the AED184 million Victoria International School Al Dhaid. At the University of Al Dhaid, a 1,000-seat theatre is under construction at a cost of AED84 million, alongside a mosque valued at AED42 million.
Sports and service projects in the Central Region total AED49 million, including an AED32 million equestrian club in Mleiha with stables for 40 horses, a racecourse, and a training area. A civil defence building in Al Bataeh and a camel market are also being built. Parks and green space investments account for more than AED25 million.
According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Eng. Abdullah Al Tunaiji, Director of Branches at the Sharjah Department of Public Works, said the projects are part of the department’s plans to expand public facilities in step with the emirate’s growing population, with coordination underway across relevant authorities to keep delivery on schedule and maintain quality standards.
