The United States of America (USA) said it carried out strikes against Venezuela and its president, Nicolás Maduro, who was captured and removed from the country.
In a post on Truth Social, President Donald J. Trump said the United States had conducted an operation against Venezuela and its leadership.
Trump to speak after Venezuela strike
“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro,” the statement said.
The statement added that Maduro and his wife were captured and flown out of Venezuela. Trump said the operation was carried out with the involvement of US law enforcement.
“This operation was done in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement,” the statement said.
However, no further details were provided about the location of Maduro’s capture or his current whereabouts. Earlier reports said explosions were reported near military bases in Caracas following the strikes.
President Trump said a news conference would take place later on Saturday. “There will be a News Conference today at 11AM at Mar-a-Lago,” the statement said, concluding “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
