The Arab League’s Council of Ministers approved the appointment of Nabil Fahmy as the organisation’s new secretary-general during a meeting in the Jordanian capital Amman on Monday evening. His term runs for five years, starting 1 July.
The council expressed confidence in Fahmy’s diplomatic experience and his ability to advance Arab joint action and address current regional challenges, according to the state news agency WAM.
