Google has opened pre-orders for the Googlebook, a new category of laptops built on the Android technology stack and designed to integrate tightly with Android phones.
Devices go on sale from October 4 in the US, with Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia following a day later.
The initial hardware lineup comes from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. All models start at $899 and feature premium materials including aluminium, magnesium alloy, and carbon fibre. Displays go up to 2.8K OLED, and processors from Intel and Qualcomm come paired with dedicated NPUs rated at over 45 TOPS. Google says battery life reaches up to 14 hours.
The central pitch is phone-to-laptop continuity. Because Googlebook shares an Android foundation, setup pulls a user’s saved passwords, Wi-Fi networks, and messages directly from their phone, encrypted end-to-end. A feature called Continue On lets users resume tasks started on their phone directly from the laptop taskbar.
Files and photos stored on the phone are accessible through the laptop’s Files app, and Cast My Apps allows phone applications to run in a desktop window without interrupting other work.
Three Gemini-powered tools are built into the desktop. Magic Pointer summons Gemini in context when a user wiggles the cursor, Rambler converts spoken notes into structured written documents, and Create My Widget generates custom desktop widgets from plain-language descriptions.
On the software side, Googlebook runs the desktop Chrome browser alongside Android apps from the Play Store, many of them optimised for larger screens and keyboard input. Native support extends to Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, and CapCut. Every device ships with a complimentary year of GeForce NOW for cloud gaming, plus a 12-month Google AI Pro subscription that includes 5TB of cloud storage and Gemini Advanced tools, three months of YouTube Premium, and access to Adobe Photoshop. Software updates are promised for up to 10 years.
Security architecture mirrors ChromeOS, anchored by Google’s Titan hardware root of trust and on-device malware detection. The device also carries what Google describes as a first for the laptop category: a Level 5 security-certified pKVM hypervisor, which creates an isolated Linux environment for developers running terminal tools, code repositories, or autonomous agents.
