Norway began their 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 4-1 win over Iraq in Group I on Monday, with Erling Haaland setting the tone early at Boston Stadium.
Haaland opened the scoring in the 29th minute, only for Aymen Hussein to pull Iraq level ten minutes later. The striker restored Norway’s advantage before half-time with his second goal of the afternoon in the 43rd minute, and the game was put beyond doubt when Leo Østigård added a third in the 76th minute. Kristian Thorstvedt completed the scoring in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
The result lifts Norway to the top of Group I on three points, ahead of France on goal difference. France opened their own campaign with a 3-1 win over Senegal.
The 2026 tournament is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
