Emirates airline and Arsenal have revealed a handcrafted sculpture of the club’s crest at the Emirates Stadium in London, built entirely from reclaimed aircraft parts.
Standing 2.4 metres tall, the piece was designed and fabricated in Dubai by the aircraft materials reuse team at Emirates Engineering. A crew of 15 engineers, designers, technicians, mechanics and paint specialists spent 34 days selecting, cleaning, cutting, bending, machining, welding and assembling components from retired Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft. Parts were chosen for their durability, geometry and suitability for reshaping.
At the centre of the sculpture sits Arsenal’s iconic cannon, rebuilt from A380 components. The axle of a main landing gear wheel forms the cannon wheel’s core, a titanium air duct becomes the barrel, and lightweight composite panels make up the body.
The work was unveiled to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Emirates-Arsenal partnership, which has been extended through to 2033.
