Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP) have opened a bridge expansion at Terminal 1 of Dubai International Airport.
The project increased traffic lanes from three to four, raising the bridge’s capacity from 4,200 vehicles per hour to 5,600 vehicles per hour—a 33% increase.
The expansion features a bridge built with steel box girders and a composite concrete deck. This construction method allowed work to proceed without traffic diversions on Airport Street or temporary supports beneath the bridge.
Dubai International Airport gets traffic boost with bridge expansion
Traffic continued during construction while maintaining safety standards.
The project included road pavement work, utility infrastructure upgrades, and landscaping to integrate with the network. Street lighting systems were installed.
RTA coordinated with Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects, which plans and develops infrastructure for Dubai’s airports. The work aligns traffic solutions with the operational requirements of Dubai International Airport, which handles the world’s most passengers on flights between countries.
The expansion supports growth in passenger numbers and air traffic.
RTA continues to develop the road network and transport system in Dubai, working on corridors and public transport options for residents and visitors.
The partnership between RTA and DAEP will continue infrastructure development for Dubai’s aviation sector and traffic connectivity with the emirate’s airports.
