Volvo Cars has announced the upcoming launch of the EX60, an electric SUV that will feature Gemini, an AI assistant from Google, allowing drivers to have natural conversations with the vehicle.
The car will be revealed on January 21, 2026 and represents the first Volvo to launch with Gemini integration. The EX60 is a mid-size electric SUV that features AI technology designed to support drivers during journeys.
“The new EX60 is full of human-centric technology designed to enhance your life behind the wheel. HuginCore, our state-of-the-art system of hardware and software, combines our in-house developed technology with the best services and technologies from tech leaders such as Google, NVIDIA and Qualcomm Technologies. It creates discreet yet cutting-edge tech that works quietly in the background to support you,” Anders Bell, our chief engineering and technology officer said in a statement.
New Volvo EX60 features Gemini AI, 810km range and NVIDIA processing power
The Gemini assistant provides hands-free control and is integrated with the car’s systems. Drivers can manage tasks through natural conversation without needing to remember specific commands. The system allows drivers to stay focused on driving, reducing the need to look at the central display.
Drivers can ask Gemini to find hotel booking addresses in emails, check if items fit in the boot, or brainstorm ideas for road trips. The integration builds on nearly a decade of collaboration between Volvo Cars and Google.
The EX60 contains the iteration of HuginCore, Volvo’s core system named after a bird in Norse mythology. This marks the first time Volvo has named its core system, which encompasses the electrical architecture, core computer, zone controllers and software inside the EX60.
The system enables continuous improvement of Volvo cars through over-the-air updates and supports the company’s position in safety.
The EX60 features the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform from Qualcomm Technologies Inc., a system-on-a-chip that provides the car with processing power.
The car is also equipped with the Snapdragon Auto Connectivity Platform by Qualcomm Technologies, offering continuous connectivity. Buyers receive four years of complimentary unlimited data.
At the centre of the EX60 is the NVIDIA DRIVE platform, featuring accelerated computing powered by the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin system-on-a-chip, which runs on the DriveOS operating system.
The processing power delivers a user experience in the infotainment system. Screens respond quickly, maps load instantly, and voice assistants understand passengers. The system operates without lag.
HuginCore reads and assesses the world around the car through sensors, providing the car with understanding of its surroundings. This awareness allows the EX60 to support drivers in real time, helping to anticipate danger, avoid risks, and react when situations occur. The system enables driver assistance features.
Volvo EX60 electric vehicle to launch with AI learning and 250 trillion operations per second
The EX60 is capable of over 250 trillion operations per second. The car processes information and learns with each mile driven. The vehicle will draw on experiences from other Volvo cars globally, including accidents and near-misses, to improve over time.
The EX60 will receive over-the-air updates, enabled by Volvo’s Superset tech stack, a software foundation that allows Volvo cars to improve over time.
As Volvo continues to integrate Gemini with the car’s systems, the assistant will unlock possibilities. In time, Gemini will be able to use the EX60’s cameras to see what drivers see and answer questions about the world around them.
The EX60 can travel up to 810km on a single charge in an all-wheel drive configuration. The car can add up to 340km of range in ten minutes when using a 400kW fast charger.
The Volvo EX60 will be revealed on January 21, 2026 and the reveal event will be livestreamed on Volvo’s website.
