Atlantis has advertised a position for mermaid divers to perform in The Lost World Aquarium, according to a job listing posted on LinkedIn.
The role, based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, requires candidates to perform as mermaids in underwater shows, meet-and-greets, and events.
Atlantis Dubai is part of Kerzner International and is home to two resorts: Atlantis, The Palm and Atlantis The Royal. The organisation operates with over 6,000 colleagues from 129 nationalities.

Applicants must hold a free diving certification from a body that is recognised, according to the LinkedIn job post.
Candidates must demonstrate swimming skills by passing a departmental swim test that takes place each year. The ability to hold breath underwater for periods that are extended is required.
Experience in aquatic performance, synchronised swimming, diving, or dance is preferred. Performers must feel at ease when performing in front of crowds that are large and when engaging with children and adults.
The position requires the ability to swim and perform underwater for periods that are extended in water temperatures that vary. Candidates must have endurance for movements that are repetitive and periods that are extended in costume.
Performers must be in health and physical condition that is rated as such, and must pass a dive medical that occurs each year. The ability to lift or carry costume elements or equipment is required.
Candidates must also be able to wear and swim in a monofin or mermaid tail for periods that are extended.
CPR, first aid, and lifeguard certification is required, or candidates must be willing to obtain these qualifications.
Responsibilities and duties
Duties include participation in rehearsals, costume fittings, and activities that are promotional in nature. Performers must maintain physical fitness and proficiency in water safety.
“Follow safety procedures and emergency protocols as instructed by staff or Dive Safety Officer,” the job listing states.
Candidates must “follow all policies and procedures set in the Atlantis Dubai Dive Operations Manual,” according to the posting.
Additional responsibilities include assistance in the care, maintenance, and cleaning of mermaid costumes and equipment. Performers must log and report all equipment malfunctions to a supervisor without delay, and must maintain dive logs and records of their own dives.
The role requires maintenance of a work environment that is safe, secure, and suitable for health, for both people and animals. Performers must attend meetings and trainings as requested and required.

The position requires a schedule that is flexible, including weekends, holidays, and evenings. Candidates must be at ease when performing duties that are assigned in proximity that is close to all animals in the collection.
Candidates must be articulate and confident in English that is written and spoken. A attitude that is positive and work ethics that are strong are required.
