VOX Cinemas has launched an IMAX auditorium at Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi, adding to its network of 15 IMAX locations across seven countries in the Middle East.
The auditorium features a screen measuring 23.2 metres in width, making it the cinema’s screen within the mall. The venue uses IMAX with Laser projection technology and includes a 12-channel sound system with ceiling, rear and surround speakers.
The auditorium offers glider and recliner seating throughout. Films shown in the space undergo IMAX’s DMR process, which remaster content for the format.

VOX Cinemas operates more than 4,129 IMAX seats across its 15 locations in the Middle East. The company is owned and operated by Majid Al Futtaim Entertainment.
The launch coincides with the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash in the region.

Audiences across the city will now be able to experience the crystal-clear image and immersive sound of IMAX this winter, with a powerhouse slate of titles through the rest of the year and across 2026,” John Schreiner, Senior Vice President of Theatre Development, EMEA at IMAX added.
The IMAX launch forms part of a refurbishment at VOX Cinemas Yas Mall. Eleven screens have been converted to Premier format, which includes gliders and recliners. The existing MAX auditorium has also received Premier seating.
The cinema has expanded its THEATRE format, which includes dining, service, leather seating and what the company describes as a first-class atmosphere. The 4DX auditorium has been converted into a THEATRE screen, adding 36 seats.
The foyer, common areas and Candy Bar have been updated as part of the refurbishment.
