The renowned Egyptian composer Omar Khairat was transferred to the intensive care unit at a Cairo hospital after suffering an acute health crisis that caused severe breathing difficulties. Niveeen Nazief, the media director for the company managing Khairat’s affairs, announced that the 77-year-old musician was diagnosed with lung inflammation and bronchial constriction resulting from a severe cold, necessitating his admission to intensive care for medical monitoring.
The health emergency emerged just two days after Khairat performed at the opening ceremony of the Al-Fustat Winter Festival on Friday, November 14, 2025, in the presence of Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. Initial symptoms developed immediately following the concert, with the composer experiencing severe respiratory distress.
Health Status Updates
Mustafa Kamel, head of the Egyptian Musicians’ Union, confirmed the stabilization of Khairat’s medical condition, indicating his recovery was progressing well. Kamel stated that he had communicated with Niveeen Nazief, the wife of Khairat’s brother Othman and the person coordinating his concert schedule, who confirmed that the composer was undergoing chest examinations and X-rays while receiving necessary medical care.
In televised statements to the “Al-Hekaya” program on MBC Masr, Nazief described the health episode as acute respiratory distress stemming from inflammation and bronchial constriction. She emphasized that physicians recommended continued medical observation to ensure complete stabilization of his condition.
Official Statement
Omar Khairat’s media office issued an official statement apologizing to his audience for the postponement of his upcoming concerts due to health reasons. The statement assured his fans that the maestro is in good condition with a stable health status, but doctors have advised him to rest and fully recover, requiring the temporary postponement of his scheduled artistic engagements.
In his statement, Khairat expressed his deep appreciation for his audience and gratitude for their continuous love and support, promising to return soon to perform in concerts befitting his devoted fans and his distinguished artistic career.
Concert Cancellations
Nazief announced the postponement of all November performances based on doctors’ recommendations, with Khairat expected to resume his artistic activities at the beginning of the following month upon full recovery. A charity concert scheduled at Al-Nas Hospital for the week following the health incident was replaced by performances from singer Amal Maher.
