Eagle Hills, the Abu Dhabi-based development company led by Emirati businessman Mohamed Alabbar, has completed a pilot residential tower in Abu Dhabi in 12 days without using concrete.
The project uses prefabricated building technology as part of the UAE’s emissions reduction targets under Vision 2031.
The tower uses a modular construction system with prefabricated components that are assembled on-site, making it “a leading model in sustainable construction in Abu Dhabi,” Alabbar said via Instagram.
Abu Dhabi gets first prefabricated tower by Eagle Hills built in under two weeks
The building was designed to consume less energy and water through thermal insulation solutions and mechanical and electrical systems, following green building standards in Abu Dhabi.
Eagle Hills has formed the partnership with Broad to introduce ‘Holon’ building technology to the UAE back in 2023. The technology, which uses factory-made components to create buildings without concrete, has been implemented in countries including China.
“The project serves as a beacon for sustainability practices. This development is the first to be built using this technology in Abu Dhabi. It consists of a 100 per cent factory-made 15 to 30-storey residential tower, that will be started in 6 months and completed in less than 6 months. This one-of-a-kind project serves as a paradigm shift within the construction industry, which ensures reduced carbon emissions, energy efficiency and water recycling. This building technology offers new features and methods including:
- Construction cost same as normal building cost
- 100 per cent factory-made (no conventional materials, sand, or concrete)
- 90 per cent to 100 per cent energy saving
- 100 per cent indoor air quality
- 100 per cent protection against dust and dirt
- 100 per cent recycled construction materials
- 100 per cent soundproof
- 0 per cent pollution during construction operations”
“Being ranked 14th globally in the number of sustainable buildings, the UAE has made tremendous contributions to this field. It is also the only country in the region to stand at the top 30 buildings list, with over 900 green buildings,” he added.
