Al Taawun Square in Sharjah will reopen to traffic on November 4, timed to coincide with the start of the Sharjah International Book Fair, according to authorities.
The decision to bring forward access to the junction is aimed at easing movement around Expo Centre Sharjah, which draws thousands of visitors over the course of the annual fair.
Details of the reopening were shared on the Direct Line programme, alongside imagery showing the square’s planned layout and its traffic light-controlled junctions.
The square sits within the broader Al Taawun Tunnel project, which is being built to address congestion at one of the most heavily used points on the Sharjah-Dubai corridor.
Authorities say the tunnel is expected to cut waiting times for motorists by as much as 85 per cent once complete. The first phase is due to open in November 2026, with the full project scheduled for completion by February 2027.
Al Taawun regularly sees significant traffic build-up during peak hours, and the tunnel scheme is part of a wider set of road improvements under way in the area.
